Local Climate Action

Rapid Review of Local Climate Action. This project, working with a UK university, collated a database of local climate action initiatives in the UK, assessed the extent to which the ‘local’ was present in UK national climate policies and strategies; documented non-governmental publications in relation to local climate action and provided an analysis report.

This project with a UK university and a climate action network focuses on climate commissions which have emerged in the UK to help translate local climate policy into action ‘on the ground’.

BEBRIT - Extreme Heat Risk

Extreme heat and drought are a major climate risk with potentially devastating impacts. The frequency and intensity of heatwaves is expected to increase and since 2000 this has been happening. The most recent, in the summer of 2022, when prolonged extreme heat was experienced in areas unaccustomed to it can serve as a warning, that unless we speed up the pace of adapting to heat then the consequences are dire.

Military Domains and Urban Forests as NBS

This research is conducted as part of an EU Horizon 2020 project exploring urban forests as nature-based solutions in Europe and China. The projects aim is to examine the management of military forests using a case study in Belgium.

Heatwave Policy Brief

This project is part of ongoing Climate Change Adaptation-Mitigation Research funded by a UK Research Network. The project aim is to produce a policy brief based on time-sensitive research conducted during the summer heatwave of 2022 to assess the effectiveness of heatwave policies and guidance with a focus on four case studies (England, London, Manchester and the Yorkshire and Humber Region.

Digital Traces

Silent Spring Consultants were involved in a UK Research Council funded project exploring how digital traces – the small, apparently innocuous pieces of personal information, generated through interactions with/in networked systems over time, collectively pose significant yet unanticipated risks to personal and organisational reputations security.

The Climate Activism project was funded by a small research grant and involved working with colleagues in three UK universities. The aim was to conduct a systematic literature review to critically explore the state of international climate activism.
